Hydrangea Inspiration
This woody shrub does have showy flowers, not doubt about it. I have one in my backyard and I absolutely love it. A Japanese Emperor once gifted hydrangeas to his sweetheart as an apology for putting his work before her. Because hydrangea has clusters of giant pom pom blooms I like to believe he was going for a grand, heartfelt gesture.
Hydrangea’s color will change depending upon the pH of the soil. This is an unusual trait for a flower. The most common color variations are pink and blue. I’m drawn to the idea that whatever your roots take in will influence the color you give the world.
The individual blossoms are mostly what I worked with for this collection. There is always individuality even in a group. I was intrigued to show the beauty found in a single bloom of a mophead inflorescence. My hydrangea jewelry flowers are all hand sawn from Argentium silver or jewelry’s brass, hand hammered to be given texture and an illusion of life.
Another striking aspect of this plant is it’s large, deeply green, leathery leaves. For some of my pieces I used a pattern directly from one of my own plant’s leaves. I hope you enjoy my interpretation of this amazing backyard plant
